O’Shea Brothers Boxing Jan. 15

By jesse, January 7, 2010 4:18 pm

O’Shea Bros. Boxing Promotions kicks-off its 2010 schedule January 15, featuring many of New York’s top young fighters in action on the “New Year, New Stars” pro boxing card, at the Yonkers PAL Gym. “Our goal is to bring old-school boxing back to the fans,” promoter Brian O’Shea explained. “We have some of the best young local fighters on this card in real fights. We don’t want protected fighters trying to build-up their records. Some guys are stepping up in terms of the level of talent they’re in the ring with and those just starting their pro careers are fighting opponents of equal talent, from rival or even the same neighborhoods in some cases, just like in the old days.” The 8-round main event pits Bronx welterweight Jose Angel “Silver Boy” Rodriguez (14-1-1, 2 KOs) against battled-tested veteran David Toribio (16-12, 10 KOs), who has proven to be an upset specialist having beaten previously unbeaten prospects (11-0) Juan Camilio Novoa (TKO1) and (14-0-2) Ishmail Arvin (DEC8). Toribio has also been in against the likes of James Kirkland, Oscar Diaz, Daniel Edouard and Marco Antonio Rubio, among the more notables. The 6-round co-feature showcases undefeated African welterweight Issouf Kinda (6-0, 3 KOs), now fighting out of Harlem, versus dangerous Dominican slugger Franklin Gonzalez (13-3, 10 KOs).

REVIEWS FROM THE BOXING WORLD, HALLOWEEN HAVOC:

By jesse, November 8, 2009 3:12 pm

Long Islands Michael “Lefty” Brooks and Bronx, NY’s Jamal Brown.

The two started fast with Brown looking to establish his right hand lead and the bigger Brooks firing lead right hooks and straight heavy left hands. After the first round came to a close it was obvious Brooks was the stronger of the two pressing the action but not finding his true rhythm until the middle of the second round when at the urging of his trainer Joe Higgins the former president of USA Boxing Metro that Brooks began to use his jab. Brooks pressure lead Brown landing a heavy low blow costing him a point and becoming just the motivation “Lefty” needed. Brooks picked it up going on to hurt Brown with a thudding left to the body followed by a right hook up top prompting the referee to halt the bout at 2:51 of round four. Brooks now 1-0, 1Ko for his nights work leaving Brown to wait for another night to get find his first victory.

Bronx NY”s Raul Lopez and New Rochelle’s Jose “Chili” Rivera renewing their acquaintance from the amateurs with six action packed, leather pounding rounds. The only thing Sanchez and Lopez had on this pair was the fifteen round distance.

Lopez began fighting behind a tight defense using a sneaky jab to set up good right hands and left hooks both to Rivera’s body and head. Rivera not to be out done applied the pressure making Lopez earn every shot landing some big hooks and uppercuts of his own. While the fighting was fierce the rounds were very close with both combatants answering the others call immediately.

the two warriors locked at 57-57 on our card. The official scores were read with two of the judges seeing it 57-57 and the third judge scoring it 58-56 for Lopez declaring the bout a majority draw, a fitting end to a skilled toe to toe well matched war with both fighters battling laying it on the line to the delight of the raving crowd. No trick here a pure treat.

the big boys with Greenpoint, Brooklyn’s heavyweight two time gold glove winner Adam Kownacki making his pro debut versus Philadelphia’s “heavy” weight Carousse Auponte, 0-2. Kownacki accompanied by a large Polish fan base including “The Raging Bull” Pawel Wolak all banging and chanting for their Polish pugilist inspiring him to open with an all out assault banging the “big” Philly fighter around the ring banging him with two hard rights to the body inviting the Polish heavyweight to open up with both hands first downstairs then up to the head causing Auponte to turn his back forcing the referee to call the action just :22 seconds into the opening stanza bringing the fast rising frenzy to a boil.

YONKERS, N.Y. (October 16, 2009) – No trick or treatin’, ghosts, ghouls or vampires — just a night of exciting, competitive pro boxing on tap Halloween Eve (Oct. 30) at the Yonkers Armory.

“Halloween Havoc,” featuring some of New York’s most promising prospects, is being presented by O’Shea Brothers Boxing Promotions.

“We’re bringing old-school boxing back to the fans,” promoter Brian O’Shea said. “We’re showcasing a lot of young, talented fighters on this card. We have real fighters, not guys fighting easy, hand-picked opponents.”

Puerto Rican heavyweight Alexis Mejias (10-1, 4 KOs), fighting out of Paterson, New Jersey, headlines against Josh Harris (3-3-1, 2 KOs) in the 6/8 round main event.

In the 6-round co-feature, Bronx featherweights, “Crazy” Eddie Irizarry (7-1, 2 KOs) and Joey Arroyo (2-1, 0 KOs) throw-down for neighborhood bragging rights.

Unbeaten African welterweight Issouf Kinda (5-0, 3 KOs) fights an opponent to be determined in a 6-rounder, while two 1-0 bantamweights with a common past, Raul Lopez (1-0, 1 KO) and Jose “Chilli” Rivera (1-0, 0 KOs), rekindle their rivalry in a 6-round match.

Also on the undercard in 4-round bouts is super middleweight Shqiprim “ White Tiger” Muriqi (1-0, 0 KOs) vs. Fasika Bezabeth, light middleweight Lambros “Lionheart” Karaolides (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. TBA, pro debuting heavyweight Adam Kownacki vs. TBA, pro debuting lightweights Michael Brooks and Jamel Brown, super featherweight Angel “Terror” Torres (1-3-2, 1 KO) vs. Takeshi Sato in his pro debut. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

“It’s going to be a great night of boxing,” O’Shea noted. “We have two 1-0 kids, Lopez and Rivera, fighting each other again. They fought three times in the New York Golden Gloves with Lopez winning twice. Kinda’s a solid prospect, ‘Crazy’ Eddie’s only loss in eight pro fights was a close decision, and Kownacki is a 2-time New York Golden Gloves champion.”

O’SHEA BOXING RESULTS FOR SEPTEMBER 18TH,2009

  • O’shea Bros Boxing ResultsO’shea Bros Boxing Produced another great night of classic prospect boxing. It took place at Yonkers Armory in Yonkers, New York on Friday night. The night was fun filled, and fast paced. I was expecting a great night from Mr. O’shea, he made a special appearance on LEAVE IT IN THE RING radio show along with Denis “Mommas Boy” Douglas, and Nydia “Tha Phenomenal” Feliciano.

The night started off with Raul Lopez defeating Gustavo Naranjo in the first round by TKO. In an exciting way to start off the evening Raul left a good impression for his pro debut fight.

The next match was no different when the 2-0 Juan Zegarra beat the 0-1 Bernel Ayers, By was of TKO in the third round, and just outclassed his boxer from start to finish.

Than it was off to one of the most interesting matches of the night. Brian O’Shea put the 0-3-2 Angel Torres against the 0-4 Jose Guerrido, where one of these boxers had to get a win, and sure enough the format continued, when Angel Torres got a TKO victory over Jose Guerrido in the second round.

Long Island Boxer Chris Algieri defeated his opponent Edward Valdez 3-7-2 in easy fashion with a third round Rtd. Algieri always has a feeling out period in his first round, but quickly took over and controled the match.

The next match was Denis “Mommas Boy” Douglas, who out classed his opponent Rondu Campbelll from the first to the fourth round, and took the victory by unanimous decision, and was seen hanging out with his mother after the match. Out of all the prospects I seen tonight, I really think this is the one you should keep an eye on, don’t let the Mommas Boy name fool you, he’s a tough fighter.

Nydia ” Tha Phenomenal” Feliciano pulls off her first victory against Karen Dulin winning a solid 4 out of 4 rounds, and hopefully we can see her make her way to the top of the women division, and one day face Maureen Shea.

The co- main event was Will ” Will Power” Rosinsky vs Raynard “Flash” Dard en. and although Will didn’t take him out by a knock out victory, he won the match, and fought his heart out. I will also like to note that half the audience were on their feet, screaming Wills name.

The main event of the night lived up to expectations, and had Carlos Zambrano improving his record to 8-0 with a victory over the tough Jason Rorie. Carlos seemed to have an easy time, demonstrating superior boxing skills over Jason Rorie, and I believe he could have even got the knock out victory, if he pushed himself a little harder.

To see these matches you can go to www.gofightlive.tv, and order it for the low price of $4.95
